U.S. approved the plan of levying tariff on China-made steel pipe at a rate of 10% to 16% China News Agency, Washington

December 30th (Reported by Wu Qingcai)

On December 30th, United States International Trade Commission (USITC) finally approved the plan of levying tariff on China-made steel pipe at a rate of 10% to 16%. That is the largest case of trade sanctions for China from the US by far.
The vote from USITC that day means the verdict publicized on November 24th whose purpose is to levy countervailing duty on China-made steel pipe at a rate of 10.36% to 15.78% has been passed. And this verdict will come into effect immediately.
U.S. Commerce Department declared that the reason for US implementing the countervailing duty verdict is that because there are government subsidiaries for oil well pipe producing in China, and the sale of these pipes had a substantial growth in the US. According to the statistics from America, in the year of 2008, the gross imports of oil pipes from China reached 2.74 billion U.S. dollars which is two times more than the last year.
The day before the above declaration, U.S. Commerce Department had a preliminary verdict of levying anti-dumping tariff on steel gratings imported from China at a rate of 14% to 145%. And U.S. Commerce Department plans to give a final decision for that case in April. And if the final decision supports the tariff-levying, then the U.S. Commerce Department will give a verdict in June.
Statistics show that since Obama took office in January, the administration has carried out at least 10 times investigations on China-made products of “anti-dumping, anti-subsidy”. China had expressed dissatisfaction with the US for the tariff-levying on China exported products, and said these trade protection measures will block the free trade.
