Earth hour

The “Earth Hour” is an initiation proposed by WWF for dealing with global climate change. This proposal hopes the common people, communities, enterprises and the government will turn off the lights for an hour at 20:30-21:30 on the last Saturday of March to show their support for dealing with climate change. Excessive carbon dioxide emission of climate change is now a great threat to the survival of humanity on the planet. Only by changing the attitude of public on the carbon dioxide emissions can reduce the impact of the threat to the world. Following the year 2009, “Earth Hour” global activities will be launched on 2010 March 27th again.
On March 28th at 8:30 p.m., the lights of Bird’s Nest and Water Cube all went out... This is one part of the "Earth Hour" activity in Beijing. At that moment, the electrical load of Beijing is lower than normal of 7 million kilowatts.
From the Chatham Islands at east of New Zealand, the world participants turned off their lights successively at 8:30 a.m. on that night. From the Sydney Opera House in Australia to the casino in Las Vegas; From the Bird's Nest in Beijing to London Eye, from the Egyptian Pyramids of Giza to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, many global landmarks have turned off their lights.
This "lights-off" activity is the third one in the whole year and also is China's first organized, large-scale participation. The landmark buildings as Bird's Nest, Water Cube, etc., and some other enterprises and the community residents are all voluntary to turn off their light. On 28th March, at the very moment of 8:30, the electrical load of Beijing is lower than normal of about 7 million kilowatts. The largest load of Beijing at last summer is 1248 million kilowatts. The professionals said, this means that the lighting electricity of Beijing has saved seven million kilowatts which is a very slight change for the whole grid. But this number reflects the public concern for energy saving.
CMSS calls upon all our staff to do something for the “Earth Hour”, and save the energy, protect our environment and save the earth's resources.
